Magnetic bookmark featuring a reproduction photography of the scroll from Carolee Schneemann’s performance art piece, Interior Scroll, 1975.
During the performance, Schneemann climbed onto a table wearing only a white sheet and an apron. After reading from her book, Cezanne, She Was A Great Painter, Schneemann dropped the sheet and started applying mud to her body, while enacting a series of poses. Then, after adopting a squatting stance, she began to pull a rolled-up scroll from her vagina and read it out loud to her mesmerised audience.
The text was taken from a super 8 film Schneemann had begun in 1973 entitled Kitch’s Last Meal.
Printed full colour with a magnetic closure.
Size: 105 x 45mm. Bespoke printed backing card.
Exclusive to the Barbican to accompany the Carolee Schneemann: Body Politics exhibition.
